Did you know that you have activities in your daily life that are sometimes referred to as”occupations”? We all have three categories of daily activities or occupations:
1. Self-care: these are the things we take for granted that we do everyday to care for ourselves (eating, sleeping, bathing, dressing, toileting).
2. Work: this is the effort to obtain a goal or perform a task (like writing this article).
3. Leisure: these are the things we do for fun (painting, tv, reading, playing the piano, socializing).
Occupational Therapists (OT) are health care professionals who work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, outpatient centers, and as in our case at Health Calls, in individual homes.
This short video captures the professional role well:
We celebrate our OT’s who help people remain within their own home.
